Christmas and New Year Training Schedule

Bolognese Sword and Dagger is almost over (last class this Sunday the 6th). Here’s what we have coming up:

  • 6th of November: Last Bolognese Sword and Dagger class.
  • 13th of November: Club tournament. Come along and test your skills (hopefully with Sword and Dagger section).
  • 20th of November: Daniels Quarterstaff course starts (more details to follow).
  • 18th of December: Last training session for the year.
  • 15th of January: Quarterstaff classes begin again.

There will be no official training sessions over the holiday period. However, there will very likely be unofficial training sessions on Sundays and Thursdays. To find out if someone will be at the hall post a message on our Facebook discussion group.

If you need to check the dates for training, then check out the training calendar to see what’s on and when.

Post Tournament Training Schedule

The Tournament is now over and we’d like to give a big thank you to everyone who came and got involved!

We’re now returning to our normal schedule of training with four weeks of Giacomo di Grassi’s single handed sword taught by Roman (14th Aug – 4th Sept) followed by 8 weeks (11th Sept – 16th Oct) of Giovanni Dall’Agocchie’s sword and dagger taught by Roger (this will contain a refresher for those who have not attended one of Roger’s classes before).

Ant will also be running re-enactment training on Sunday afternoons for anyone who is interested. HEMA1 (novice) training will be continuing as normal so please do continue to invite anyone interested along.

New Synthetic Sideswords are Here!

The club now has a number of Blackfencer Sideswords which are available for use in our training sessions. These have almost exactly the same weight and balance as a steel sword and bind much better than the club’s existing Rawlings swords. If you haven’t had chance to try one out come along on Thursdays or Sundays and take one for a spin.

Initial reports from members who have used them or bought one are very favourable. If you want one for yourself please ask someone on the committee – there may be one or two left available for club members only.

Don’t worry if you miss out we will be doing another order very soon.

Training over the Holiday Period

Official training sessions are over for the year and will resume on the 17th of January. There will very likely be unofficial training sessions on Sundays or Thursdays. To find out if someone will be at the hall post a message on our Facebook discussion group.

If you need to check the dates for training, then check out the training calendar to see what’s on and when.

Enjoy your time off everyone and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!

New HEMA Documentary

Cedric Hauteville recently completed a feature length documentary on the world of Historical European Martial Arts. If you want to know about the many different facets of HEMA then you’ll want to watch this video…

New Training Venue Coming…

The club’s membership continues to grow steadily and the committee has been working hard to find a suitable location that can house all of us in one session. The result of this is that we have arranged for a 5 week trial at the Touch Compass Dance studio from the 15th of November to the 13th of December.

Studio1
It’s BIG! Around 3 x the size of the scout hall.

Make sure you mark the date in your diary and try to come along on the day. Ideally, we need as many people there as possible so we can get a feel for how much space there will be.

After the trial there will be an SGM so that the club as a whole can vote on whether we want to rent the studio on a regular basis.

More details and reminders coming soon…

Memorial Tournament 2015 Results

Thank you to all those who participated in and helped out with the Steve Hodgson Memorial Tournament this year. We hope everyone had an enjoyable time.

Congratulations again to our tournament winners: Elisey (rapier), John (single-sword) and of course longsword, spear, and overall tournament champion Patch. Also, a huge thanks to our sponsor WMAshop.com for donating to the prize pool!

For more photos, check out the tournament gallery.

Of course any event of this size requires some magic behind the scenes to make it all happen. The committee would like to thank the individuals below for their efforts to make the tournament a success:

  • Daniel, Hugh, AJ, Ben, Ange, David B (marshals and line judges – a tough job indeed)
  • Steve and Arna (catering)
  • Ellie and Dave (registration)
  • Roman (scorekeeper)

To everyone: we hope to see you all back again next year!
